finally, i dont conceive design as bringing the exact same shoe from another country, but maybe making one small change or even improving it. This cannot be taken as the best design of the year, because it is not even his design, but an argentinian design.

This design is an exact replica of an argentinian type of shoe,which it isnt for poor people as the designer is willing to deliver,but of a very determined social group.Delivering these shoes to poor people would be of little help as they are not prepared for the activities these people do.

The shoe is not what was nominated Im sure. Rather, the idea. I have never heard of a business giving away their product for every one of their products they sell. The idea is new, risky, and plain good. I believe it will help generate a society of thoughtful consumers.

sweat shop free. We have representatives that check on the manufacturing once a month. As for sizing. All of the current seasons are TRUE TO SIZE. When TOMS began.. there were kinks to be worked out just as any other start up business. TOMS is about compassion. Vote for TOMS!

Blake Mycoskie never once claimed to have come up with the design. If you research a little on the TOMS website you will find that Blake gives full credit to the Alpargata. Blake only claimed to have REdesigned the shoes. Which he did. The shoes have a rubber sole instead

This design is taken from traditional Argentine footwear and is not an original by the designer credited. While donating shoes to needy children is of course commendable, simply decorating a traditional concept by others is not deserving of such a distinguished design award.

if you do the proper research, you would find that TOMS uses a factory in Argentina and one in China. there is an employee that goes 2 weeks out of a month to the factory in China to assure that it is Fair Trade, meaning proper age, wages, hours, etc.

These shoes are a blatant copy of the Argentine Alpargata. There is a company named Alpargatas that has been manufacturing these since 1885. Check out http://www.alpargatascalzado.com.ar/rueda.htm and decide for yourself. He should be disqualified.

For the record, TOMS shoes does NOT use child labor. The owner Blake, worked with consultants here in the US to find the right factory. I'm pretty sure that the company isn't stupid enough to create such an amazing brand and idea and then ruin it in their production by using sweatshop/child labor.

Can't believe the comments about poor customer service. My experience has been just the opposite. In fact, I was one of the first customers and the order was taken over the phone by Blake himself. Subsequent contact with the company has always been pleasant. And, I love my shoes!

My TOMS survived two months of everything Europe could throw at it. My main form of transportation was walking (i.e. all day; every day) and I have yet to get a single blister. The bonus is, I got home, and with a few squirts of stain remover and a wet rag, I basically a new pair of TOMS again!

I love my TOMS! They are the most comfortable shoes I own, I wear them almost every day. Their customer service was awesome! They went out of their way to make sure I had the right size - I guess they have had some issues with sizing in the past. On top of all that they are for a great cause.

When I noticed the "HECHO CHINA" tag on my TOMS, i was very disappointed. I wrote to TOMS to ask why they make their shoes in China instead of giving business and shoes to poor Argentineans, but nobody ever wrote me back. Is just for Tom's economic gain? I don't know, so I can't vote for TOMS.

The design appears to be flexible, soft, and comfortable for any width of a person's feet. The material appears to be able to let your feet breathe and adaptable to people with feet problems such as mine. I have hammer toes and this shoe would be one that I would try.
